I am dreaming of a world where we have real connections, poetic interactions, sustainable spaces and more meaningful boundaries.

Preksha Baid
Preksha conceived Y-walls while studying at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London. The philosophy to look beyond boundaries is not just her approach to work, but also a way of life. Her work reflects an interdisciplinary approach between Art, Architecture and Textile Design.

A fellow of Royal Society of Arts London (RSA), Preksha graduated from M.A. in Textile Futures, Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, London and alumni of NIFT Delhi. Her work has been internationally published and exhibited. Preksha received an award for the most creative textile collection at NIFT. Her textile work (Y-walls) was commissioned by Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design for the Contemporary Art Collection. She was also short-listed as the ‘Best Newcomer’ for the Hidden Art awards, London, Dec 2006. Most recently she received the Elle Décor International Design Award, EDIDA for her work ‘Apply-Ply’ in 2009.

She continues to research ‘sensory experience of a space’ and ‘human interaction’. Set up in 2008, her Delhi based studio ’Y-walls Design‘, provides space design solutions.

What inspires me?
Having a textile background has helped me to understand, how things around us are woven together and the layers of meaning in our habitat. The structure and nature of textiles can be applied to infinite number of things. I have applied it to understand our relationship with spaces and how we experience them.

Exploring different boundaries helps to challenge our vision as designers and avoids the trap of conformity; this process leads to creating design that is honest and relevant.
